Mangaluru, Aug 2, 2025: Ammonia gas leaked at a fish processing unit in the Baikampady industrial area, leaving four workers critically ill and admitted to a private hospital in Mukka. Around 25 others also fell sick and were hospitalized for treatment. Among them, four workers from North India are in serious condition and are receiving care in the intensive care unit.

The company employs over 200 workers, and operations were ongoing in shifts. Around 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, a leakage was detected in an ammonia transport pipe inside the plant. Workers near the area experienced breathing difficulties and began screaming for help. The alarm was immediately sounded, and workers were evacuated to a safe location. The company’s management promptly arranged for the affected workers to receive emergency medical treatment.


To control the leakage, the local MCF team along with the fire brigade rushed to the spot and initiated operations. Upon receiving the information, the Mangaluru Tahsildar, Deputy Tahsildar, and revenue officials rushed to the scene to gather details and review the measures taken to contain the leak. Officials from the Panambur Police Station also visited the site and initiated legal procedures.
