Mangaluru, Aug 2, 2025: The Central Crime Branch police of Mangaluru City Police, on Friday, arrested three persons on charges of transporting cannabis from Andhra Pradesh and seized 123 kg of the narcotic substance, two cars and mobile phones from their possession.
Police gave the names of the accused as M.K. Masood, 45, resident of Urdur, and, Mohammed Ashik, 24 and Zuber, 30, both residents of Delampady, in the neighbouring Kasargod district.
Acting on specific information that the accused were transporting cannabis by two cars from Andhra Pradesh, the police intercepted the vehicles at Mathadakere near Kanthavara Cross in Beluvai near Moodbidri on July 31 night. Upon finding the contraband in the cars, the police arrested the accused besides seizing the vehicles and the cannabis. The seized items were worth ₹46.2 lakh, police added.
Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy said the accused brought cannabis packed in 2 kg packets. They had established a distribution network surrounding Kasargod district. The accused supplied cannabis by repacking the same in smaller packets of 100-200 gm each.
Moodbidri police have registered a case in this regard.
