Mangalore, Feb 27, 2012: Inspector General of Police (Western Range) Prathap Reddy inaugurated a seminar titled Police – Public Relations: Perspective of Youth, hosted by Roshni Nilaya School of Social Work and organized jointly by its department of criminology and forensic science and the city police. 


Speaking about the communication gap between the public and the police, he said that this is because the media fails to give proper coverage to police achievements. He urged the media to give coverage to police achievements and their sacrifices too while pointing out the various flaws in the department.

Recalling an incident in which a group of teenagers got lost while trekking near Bandaje Falls in Belthangady, he said that the media failed to give coverage to the rescue operation launched by the police department to save the trekkers. Unfortunately, one of them had died by the time help reached them. 


Seemanth Kumar Singh, the Mangalore police commissioner, released a book titled Criminologically Relevant Issues. Dr. T. S. Kenchappa, the deputy director of the Regional Forensic Laboratory, was felicitated on this occasion. 


Principal of Roshni Nilaya Dr. Sophia Fernandes delivered the presidential address; Dr. B. Ashoka delivered the introductory address; and Jayeesha delivered the welcome address. 


A discussion on various important issues formed part of the seminar, with Prof. B. M. Madhav, the head of the department of research at Roshni Nilaya School of Social Work; Raghavendra Rao, the lawyer; Subhashchandra, the ACP of Mangalore; and others participating.
