Sara Aboobakker Literary Prize conferred on Kodibettu Rajalakshmi

Mangalore, feb 20, 2012 : The Sara Aboobakker Literary Prize was conferred on Kodibettu Rajalakshmi at Karavali Lekhakiyara Vachakiyara Sangha for her anthology of short stories Ondu Mushti Nakshatra.

Speaking on the occasion, the writer said that writers must depict social reality without bowing to social pressure.

Sara Aboobaker’s novel Ilijaaru, Mumthaz Begum’s anthology of short stories Ankura, and Dr. Khathija Mumthaz’s Kannada translation of the Malayalma novel Bursa was released on this occasion.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Khatija Mumthaz said that writers ought to look into dangerous national conditions and remind people of the trap they may lead into. Her book relates the tale of a woman who got converted into Islam because she fell in love with a Muslim man. She said that her book evoked mixed response in Kerala and that the people who were the most vociferous in condemning her book were the ones who had never read it.

Dr. B. A. Vivek Rai, the former vice chancellor of Hampi University; Sara Aboobakker, the renowned writer; Dr. Sabiha Bhoomigowda; and many others were also present.
