Sahyadri College celebrates National Librarians’ Day

Mangaluru, September 4, 2026: The Central Library of Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management (SCEM) organised a National Librarians’ Day programme along with the Recognition of Best Library Users and Prize Distribution Ceremony at the college’s Ground Floor Seminar Hall.

The programme, coordinated by Dr. Bharathi K., Librarian, SCEM, commemorated the contributions of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, widely regarded as the Father of Library Science in India. The event also highlighted the vital role of libraries in promoting learning, research and knowledge sharing.

Mr. Rajaneesh Appayya, Licensing Manager, Springer Nature, South India, was the Chief Guest and Resource Person, while Mr. Akash S., Assistant Manager – Product Training & Technical Support, Drillbit Plagiarism Software, also served as a Resource Person. Mr. Krishna Hegde, Administrator and Trustee, SCEM, was the Invitee. Dr. S. S. Injaganeri, Principal, and Dr. Sudheer Shetty, Vice Principal, SCEM, were present on the dais.

The programme began with a video presentation showcasing the life and contributions of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp. Informative sessions on scholarly resources and plagiarism awareness were conducted by the resource persons.

A major highlight of the programme was the recognition of the Best Library Users in the categories of Print Resources and Digital Information Resources. Prizes were also presented to the winners of various competitions, including the Quiz, 3-Minute Talk, Treasure Hunt and Collage Making.

Dr. Chandana B. R., Associate Professor, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), served as the Master of Ceremony and guided the proceedings.
