Mangaluru/Udupi, Mar 18, 2026: The SSLC examinations commenced on Wednesday, March 18, across Dakshina Kannada (DK) and Udupi districts with elaborate arrangements in place to ensure smooth conduct.
In Dakshina Kannada district, a total of 29,397 students have registered for the examinations this year. Students from 524 high schools are appearing at 91 centres across the district. Seating has been arranged for 24 candidates per room, with a total of 1,298 rooms prepared. As many as 2,428 officials and staff have been deployed for examination duty.
Preparations were completed on Tuesday, including affixing registration numbers at all centres. The examinations will continue until April 2, with webcasting arranged to ensure transparency. Students have also been provided free travel in government buses.
At the Padua centre, a special arrangement has been made for a student to write the examination while seated on the floor, following a request from the parents, said DDPI Shashidhar.
Udupi District Sees 14,151 Students Appear
In Udupi district, a total of 14,151 students have registered for the SSLC examinations, including 7,353 boys and 6,798 girls. Among them, 13,516 are fresh candidates, while the rest include repeaters and private candidates.
The examinations are being conducted at 51 centres across the district — 15 in Udupi, 11 in Brahmavar, 9 in Karkala, and 8 each in Byndoor and Kundapur — with 686 examination rooms designated.
Strict measures have been implemented to prevent malpractice, including installation of CCTV cameras at all centres. Around 1,350 officials and staff have been deployed, supported by vigilance squads, nodal officers, route officers, and police personnel to ensure security and monitoring.
Basic facilities such as drinking water and medical support have been arranged at all centres. Registration numbers and classroom details were displayed outside centres for the convenience of students.
On the first day, students appeared for the First Language paper, which began at 10 am.
Prohibitory orders have been imposed within a 100-metre radius of all examination centres, and nearby photocopy shops will remain closed during exam hours. Authorities have taken all necessary steps to ensure a smooth and fair examination process.
Six evaluation centres have been set up in Udupi city, with 1,512 evaluators assigned for assessment work under the supervision of appointed administrators.
Students are prohibited from carrying mobile phones and smartwatches into examination centres. Free travel has been arranged through KSRTC buses, allowing students to commute by presenting their hall tickets, with designated bus stoppages near examination centres.
