Mangalore, June 28: The district unit of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) joined the indefinite hunger strike launched by Gregory Patrao, his family members, and their supporters on June 17 in front of the DC’s office.
A number of organizations are supporting Mr. Patrao; and everyday one organization stages a hunger strike in front of the DC’s office. On Sunday, 40 villagers from Ammembala and Polali took up the hunger strike.
The activists of SDPI, who are already in favor of Gregory Patrao’s anti-SEZ struggle, sat with the family on Monday morning and shouted slogans against the state government, the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB), the Mangalore Special Economic Zone (MSEZ), and the MRPL.
Haneef Khan Kodaje, the president of the DK district committee of SDPI; Vice President Alfons Franco; General Secretary Mohammed Nasir; Abdul Azeez of Thumbe; Ibrahim Bolar; and others participated in the protest.
Today is the 12th day of the indefinite hunger strike for the Patrao family, which said that they will not cease their struggle until they get back all the land acquired by the KIADB.
