Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, April 22: Delivering the keynote address during the inaugural ceremony of a membership drive initiated by the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), Anwar Sadath, the senior leader of SDPI, said that the party is not just interested in elections, but aims at effectively representing the marginalized sections of society and gives top priority to solving the problems of the poor and the downtrodden. The event was held at Town hall this evening. Mr. Sadath said that his party intends to transfer power from the corporate world to the common citizens of the country.

Further speaking on the issue, Mr. Sadath said that the SDPI intends to be the voice of minorities, dalits, tribals, and other poor and downtrodden people of all communities. The few Muslim and Dalit leaders in politics hardly bother about their own people, he alleged.

He said that India, a country in which 55 percent of the people do not own their own land or house, needs a party such as SDPI, adding that the country is torn apart with scams, scandals, and corrupt activities on the part of its leaders. Besides, evils such as child and woman trafficking, child labour, crimes against women, and others are on the rise and no government can solve any of these problems. He said that the SDPI had taken it upon itself to find solutions to these problems.

Abdul Latheef Puttur, the state vice president of the SDPI, launched the membership drive. Abdul Jaleel K., the district president of the SDPI, presided over the programme. SDPI leaders Chandrahasa Poojary, Ismaeel Engineer, Lancy Tauro, Mohammed Shareef, Akram Hasan Ullal, Aboobakker Siddique, Abdul Kalam, Shahul Parliya, advocate Majeed Khan, Akbar Ali, and others were also present.
