Mangaluru: First private electric bus launched on route no. 27

Mangaluru, Feb 27, 2026: A new chapter has begun in the city’s public transport system as Mangaluru’s first private electric bus was officially flagged off on Thursday at a function held at Pala Mar Garden near Morgan’s Gate.

The air-conditioned (AC) electric bus has commenced operations on the city’s prominent Route No. 27 circuit, aiming to provide daily commuters with a sustainable, eco-friendly and comfortable travel experience. The launch marks a historic milestone in Mangaluru’s private transport sector.

Mangaluru South MLA Vedavyas Kamath inaugurated the service and extended his wishes to the operators. Speaking on the occasion, he stressed the importance of adopting green energy to reduce the carbon footprint in urban areas. He said the use of electric vehicles is the need of the future and a significant step towards environmental conservation.

MLC Kishore Kumar, bus owner Dilraj Alva, Dakshina Kannada Bus Owners’ Association president Aziz Parthippadi and other officials were present at the event. With the introduction of this e-bus, more private transport operators are expected to adopt electric vehicles, marking an important step towards realizing the dream of a cleaner and quieter Mangaluru.
