Udupi, Aug 17, 2011 : Speaking after inaugurating a hostel for scheduled caste students in Adi Udupi, District-in-charge Minister Dr. V. S. Acharya said that the state government has earmarked Rs. 330 crore for the development of the scheduled caste communities and Rs. 1,600 crore for the development of the scheduled tribes.
Further, he said that special programmes have been conducted for the uplift of the Koraga community. Letters have been issued to provide auto rickshaws to 34, taxis to 29, and houses to 30 beneficiaries, respectively. The second installment of scholarships to Koraga students who are doing higher studies have also been issued, he said.
MLA K. Raghupathi Bhat presided over the event. Katapadi Shankara Poojary, the president of the ZP; Kiran Kumar, the president of the Municipal Corporation; Bharathi Chandrashekar, the vice president; Ravi Amin and Indira Shekar, the local municipal corporation members, were the chief guests of the occasion.
