Mangaluru: MCC bans road digging, hill cutting during monsoon season

Mangaluru, May 23, 2026: The Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has banned road digging, hill cutting and soil excavation works within its limits from June 1 to September 30 to prevent landslides and avoid loss of life and damage to public property during the monsoon season.

In a statement, MCC Commissioner Ravichandra Nayak said that all kinds of excavation activities and transportation of soil during this period have been completely prohibited.

He further stated that if building construction work has already commenced after obtaining permission from the corporation, necessary precautionary measures, including proper backfilling, must be undertaken to ensure that neighbouring properties are not affected.

The statement also warned that in the event of any mishap causing loss of life or property damage, the owners and the concerned engineers would be held directly responsible.
