Harish, son of Ishwara Poojary, who owns the house, called the local corporator who inspected the scene at noon. The Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) officials, contractors, workers, and MLA Khader arrived much later at 2:30 p.m.

The retention wall was constructed six years back when Shalini was the corporator. Mr. Khader said that the wall might have collapsed because of water logging as there is no proper storm water drain. He said that higher officials will visit the place when the stones and the mud is cleared and will estimate the total repair cost. Since the monsoon has already set in, the wall will be re-constructed later and bags of sand will be placed on the spot for the time being, he added.

Ishwar Poojary’s family of seven lives in the damaged house. Fortunately, none of them sustained any injuries although the bedroom, kitchen, and living room of the house have been badly damaged.
