Mangaluru, Jan 25, 2026: Dr D. Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala, inaugurated the restored Kalasha installed at Pumpwell Mahaveer Circle under the leadership of the Mangaluru Jain Society (R) on Saturday, January 24th.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Heggade said that both the inner and outer selves of a person should remain pure. He noted that the Kalasha symbolises a gesture of welcome and farewell to those arriving in and departing from Mangaluru, and has been installed with the wish of bringing auspiciousness to all.

Unveiling the name plaque, Speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly U.T. Khader said the Kalasha represents the coastal region’s cultural heritage, religious ethos and sense of self-respect. It also conveys the message of Lord Mahavira’s principle of Ahimsa Paramo Dharma (non-violence as the supreme virtue). He suggested that the thoughts and sayings of Mahavira should be inscribed on plaques to inspire self-reflection among the public.
Dakshina Kannada MP Brijesh Chowta said the Kalasha would serve as a catalyst for the “Mangaluru 2.0” development vision. Under the concept of “Back to the native place”, it should encourage people to take up employment and entrepreneurship in their hometowns. He added that the Centre has directed the preparation of a feasibility report for the upgradation of the BC Road–Surathkal highway. Elevated roads are proposed from the Kudremukh factory area to Baikampady and from Nanthur to Kulur, besides the development of the Surathkal–BC Road bypass. He said the support of Rajya Sabha member Dr Veerendra Heggade would be required to pursue these projects with Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari.
Presiding over the programme, Dakshina Kannada District Central Cooperative Bank president Dr M.N. Rajendra Kumar said the Kalasha at Pumpwell Mahaveer Circle stands as a mark of respect for those entering Mangaluru, and expressed hope that it would also bring success to entrepreneurs in the area.
Mangaluru South MLA Vedavyas Kamath and Legislative Council member Ivan D’Souza extended their greetings. Mangaluru Jain Society president Pushparaj Jain welcomed the gathering, while Manoj Kumar Vamanjoor compered the programme.
