Rape of minor: POCSO Court sentences Haveri man to 20 years RI

Udupi, June 28, 2022: The POCSO Fast Track Court of the Udupi District Additional and Sessions Court has sentenced a man from Haveri to  20 years of rigorous imprisonment in the case of sexual assault on a minor girl who was living along with her mother  who worked as a labourer in a plantation in  Kundapur taluk.

 

The convict is 55 year old Hanumantha who too used to work in the same plantation and had raped the girl in January 2021 while she was alone in  the house. The victim was later admitted to the Kundapur hospital.

The FIR was lodged based on the  complaint by the girl’s mother. Kundapur Circle Inspector Gopikrishna K R had investigated the case and had filed a chargesheet.

Of the 18 witnesses, 12 deposed before the court. The court in its order has directed the convict to pay a penalty of Rs 20,000 failing which  he has to undergo an additional one year of simple imprisonment. The government has also  directed the government to pay a compensation of Rs 5 lakhs to the victim.
