Rao, son of BJP leader Jagannivasa Rao of Puttur in Dakshina Kannada district, who is accused of allegedly impregnating a woman after promising to marry her.

The court, however, directed the petitioner-accused to pay Rs 75,000 per month towards the maintenance of the survivor and the child, either personally or through his parents, to meet their needs.

The interim order was passed by the single-judge bench of Justice M. Nagaprasanna while hearing the petition filed by Krishna J. Rao seeking quashing of the case on Friday.

The court further instructed the petitioner to pay the first installment of Rs 75,000 to the survivor within one week and continue making the payment every month thereafter.

Subject to this condition, the High Court stayed all further proceedings in the case until further orders.
