Mangalore, September 24: Heavy rains accompanied by thunder and lightning lashed Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district on Thursday night. Due to thunder several places witnessed variation in power supply on the night of Thursday, September 23.
Rain started at 8.30 p.m and continued till late night. Many low lying areas in the city have been inundated after the heavy rain fall. Several incidents of lightning strike and house collapse were reported from DK and Udupi district.
The power supply was disrupted for about five to six hours in places like Surathkal, Panamboor, Thokkottu, Konaje, Talapady. Some houses have been partially damaged in the incident.
Janardan Poojary (45), a resident of Ganadakotya in Karinje village near Moodbidri municipality, died after lightning struck him on Thursday night. He had gone outside to take a bath when the incident occurred. His daughter, Jyoti (17), was also injured in the incident.
