Mangalore, Jun 4: The Lokayukta police caught an RTO clerk red handed when he was accepting a bribe of Rs. 800 on June 4, Saturday.
Yallappa of Shimoga was working as a clerk in the RTO’s non transport section. He was caught during a Lokayukta raid, which was conducted at 4:30 p.m. The Lokayukta police had received a tip off from Michael Lobo, the owner of a finance company.
Reportedly, Yallappa had demanded Rs. 800 from Lobo for carrying out the hypothecation process of four vehicles at the rate of Rs 200 per vehicle. Lobo told reporters that Yallappa had been delaying the work for over one month before he demanded the bribe.
The Lokayukta team, which conducted the raid, included Jagamayyanawar, the Karwar Lokayukta superintendent of police; Deputy Superintendent Sadananda Vernekar; and Lokayukta Inspector Udaya Nayak.
Lokayukta SP Jagamayyanawar told reporters that Yallappa had been accused of corruption even when he was working in Shimoga.
