Speaking on the occasion Dr. Bhagyalakmi, Director of Collegiate Education, Government of Karnataka said, “The quality of higher education can be measured in terms of benchmarks. The focus should be on gender equity, rural development, more government colleges in rural areas and more scholarships for students. The Karnataka government has introduced Vikasana, Sahyog, Angla etc. skill based programmes from 2008. Twelfth plan in higher education has brought about reforms but implementation suffers on various counts. Quality of education demands attention and is the cornerstone of higher education.”

Prof. Mrinmoy Bhattacharya, Former General Secretary AIFUCTO said, “Teachers movement focused on teachers service conditions, may be neglected issues concerned with higher education. It has done well in creating a strong institution for the teachers to look into the concerns of higher education. Higher education has always been a challenge and has liberated minds not just for technical education. The gross enrolment ratio of India less than 35% is not  a great achievement as many countries have 50 % to 60% unless we are capable of taking higher education to all sections by reaching out more and more in number the issue still remains. The research should be viewed in terms of group and not individuals. So the conference AIFUCTO has to rise to this challenge.”

Prof. Ravi Srivastava, Jawahar Lal Nehru University, New Delhi and Prof. Sudhanshu Bhushan, Department of Higher & Profesional Education, National University of Educational Planning & Administration, New Delhi, presented their view points on issues concerning higher education.
Rev. Fr.Swebert D’Silva, Principal, St. Aloysius College (Autonomous) presided over the programme. Dr. A.M. Narahari, Chariman and  Dr. Norbert Lobo, President AMUCT were present at the occasion.

The two-day seminar will discuss the shortage of teachers, conditions, the benefits to the teachers and infrastructures are the problems addressed during 12th plan.
