Puttur: College student assaulted near KSRTC bus stand, death threats issued; case registered

Puttur, Apr 24, 2026: A private college student was allegedly assaulted and threatened with death by a group of five to six individuals near the KSRTC bus stand in Puttur on the evening of April 22.

The victim, identified as Adil, was having tea with his friends Suhail and Azhar near the KSRTC bus stand in Puttur Kasaba village at around 6 pm when the incident occurred.

Assault

According to the complaint, a group including known acquaintances B K Moinuddin, Mohad, and five others suddenly approached Adil and attacked him without provocation.

When Adil’s friends tried to intervene and stop the assault, the group allegedly threatened them as well. As people began gathering at the spot, the accused reportedly abused Adil using foul language and issued life threats before fleeing from the scene.

Police said the motive behind the attack appears to be linked to an earlier incident a few months ago when Adil had intervened to prevent Moinuddin and his associates from assaulting other students at the college. The complaint states that the accused held a grudge over that incident and carried out the attack in retaliation.

The injured Adil was admitted to the Government Hospital in Puttur and is currently undergoing treatment.

A case has been registered at the Puttur City Police Station under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS 2023), including charges of assault and criminal intimidation. Police are investigating the case and searching for the accused.
