Mangalore, Nov 8: The Karnataka Rakshana Vedike, under the guidance of Annayya Kulal, its president, and George P. V., the working president, demanded that Kannada boards should be installed at the Central Railway Station, Mangalore on Nov 8, Monday.
The activists of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike met Neeliath Chandran, the station manager, and demanded that Kannada boards should be put up for the benefit of travelers who cannot read Hindi and English. The vedike also submitted a memorandum, in which it warned that it will organize intense protests if the demand was not met. It also gave a 15-day deadline for the same.
When the station manager said that he needed more time, the activists sarcastically said that they wanted Kannada boards to be put up, not a new building, and argued that 15 days was more than enough.
Alleging that most of the contracts were given to people of other states by publishing advertisements in non Kannada newspapers, the vedike also demanded that railway contract works should be advertised in Kannada.
