President Pratibha Patil to take part in Konkani Ekta Divas on December 9

Mangalore, October 26:  To showcase to the world, the beauty and variety of Konkan Culture and to enhance the ‘Swabhiman(Self-Esteem) of every Konkai, Mandd Shobhann the world’s Premier Konkani Cultural Organisation- proudly organizes the First world’s Konkani Cultural convention from November to December 19, 2010 a days world level Cultural festival at Kalaangann, Mangalore.

Eric Ozario, noted Konkani artist and Gurkar of Konkani Cultural Organisation ’Mandd Sobhann’ said in a press meet held in the press club on Tuesday October 26 that the President Pratibha Devisingh Patil will be the chief guest at the Vishwa Konkani Ekta Divas’ (The World Konkani Unity Day) to be organised at the TMA Pai auditorium on December 9. It will be the most important day of the convention. 25 Konkani organizations/institutions from around the world who have enriched Konkani culture in their region will be honoured by the president on the occasion.

Seventy five troupes from around the world with over 1500 artistes belonging to various castes, creeds, dialects and regions of Konkani will present folk, theatre, music and dance performances. There will also be a film festival, a food festival, a youth festival an art festival, a Kavita festival and competitions in traditional games, costumes and cuisine. The second Gobal Konkani Music awards and the sixth Kallaakar Puraskar will also be awarded during this event. Seminars will be conducted on various aspects of Konkani culture. 25 institutions from around the world, which have enriched Konkani cultural will be recognized and honoured. Dignitaries from around the world grace the event as chief guests of honour, each day. A colourful procession and a grand opening ceremony and a festive closing ceremony are also being planned.

A reception committee of eminent persons under the chairmanship of Ronald Colaco is constituted and Digamber V Kamath, honourable Chief Minister, Government of Goa its chief Patron.

The preparations have begun in right earnest and great enthusiasm is expressed by every Konkani from different parts of the world. As many as 4 to 6 troupes are being invited from abroad.

The Launching Ceremony of the world-event was held in Bangalore on June 20, 2010. G Janardhan Reddy, Minister for Tourism and Infrastructure, state government was the chief guest.

 

 

 

 

 

 

He said Konkani speaking people belonging to 43 categories including Navayath Muslims, Siddis, Kharvis, Kudubis will also take part in the event. The launching ceremony of this event was held in Bangalore on June 20. G Janardhana Reddy, Minister for Tourism and Infrastructure was the chief guest while in Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit was present on October 24.
 

The Goa curtain-raiser was held in Margao on July 18 by Digambar Kamat, Chief Minister of Goa whereas in Mumbai it was on August 9 by Ashok Chavan, Chief Minister of Maharashtra. The curtain-raiser in Canada was held on September 12 and in Gulf countries on September 24.
