Udupi, Jul 7: Pramila Pinto of Manasa Rehabilitation and Training Center in Pamboor has won gold and bronze medals for India in the roller skating events of the Special Olympics held in Athens, Greece.

The management of Manasa and the residents of Pamboor felicitated her today. Fr. Stany Tauro, the parish priest of Our Lady of Good Health Church in Shirva, presided over the event. In his address, he said that Ms. Pinto has brought plenty of medals to India and adding that the achievements of Ms. Pinto, a special kid at Manasa, are indeed marvelous.

Devdas Hebbar, the president of the Taluk Panchayat, spoke in appreciation of Ms. Pinto and said that the TP has urged all GPs in its jurisdiction to earmark 3 percent of their revenue for the welfare of special kids.

Pramila was warmly welcomed at Katpady today. She was taken in a grand procession through BC Road to Manasa where she was publicly honored.

Stella Ida, the member of the ZP; Nityananda Olakadu, the president of the Nagarika Samithi district; Niranjan Bhat, the district physically handicapped welfare officer; Laxminarayan Upadhyaya, Pramila’s coach; Fr. Charles Lewis, the parish priest of Pamboor Holy Cross church; William Machado, the president of the Pamboor Catholic Sabha; Dr. Gerald Pinto, the secretary of Manasa; Pramila’s parents; and many others were present on the occasion.
