Moodbidri, Dec 22, 2011 : Poovamma M. R. of Mangalore University emerged as the top athlete of the women’s division, while Jagdish Singh, the athlete of GNDU Amritsar University, emerged as the top athlete of the men’s division in the 72nd All India Inter-Varsity Athletics Championship held on Swarajya Maidan for five successive days by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Bangalore and Alva’s Education Foundation Moodubidri.

The Punjab University of Patiala emerged as the champion, having won 9 gold medals, 4 silver medals, and 2 bronze medals. The runners up were M. G. University of Kottayam, who won 4 gold medals, 4 silver medals, and 3 bronze medals. The Punjab University men’s team won 5 gold medals, 3 silver medals, and 1 bronze medal, while the University of Kerala won 2 gold medals, 2 silver medals, and 2 bronze medals.

The women’s team of Calicut University won 3 gold medals, 5 silver medals, and 4 bronze medals and Mangalore University won 3 gold medals, 1 silver medals, and 1 bronze medal and Punjab University won 3 gold medals, 1 silver medal, and 1 bronze medal.

Results

Suresh Kumar and Rattan Lal Jat of Punjab University won the first and second place in the men’s half marathon, respectively. Nilesh Bodhe of RTM Nagpur University and Anil Panwar of Pune University were the runners up of the same event.

Shabeena of Alva’s College, affiliated to the Mangalore University, won the first place in the women’s half marathon, Rameshwari M. V. of Calicut University won the second place, and the runners up were Rooma Devi and Navjoban Kaur of Punjab University.

Veerendra of Alva’s College won the first place in the men’s 200-m race while Arumugam Manikanda of Madras University won the second place in the same. The runner up was Niteesh Anthony of Kerala University.

Santhini V. of Calicut University won the first place in the women’s 200-m race while Ammu K. of Kannur University won the second place. The runner up was Chaavi Sharawat of CCS University.

Raji C. T. and Purnima Hembram of Punjab University won the first and second place in the women’s 84cm 100m hurdles. The third place was won by Darsana M. S. of Calicut University.

J. Surendhar of Madras University won the first place in the men’s 106.7-cm 110-m hurdles while K. Premkumar of Anna University won the second place and Pinto Mathew of Kannur University won the third place.

Harvendra Singh of VBSP University won the first place in the men’s 7.26kg hammer throw while Neeraj Kumar of Rajasthan University won the second place. Sachin Kumar of HNBG University and Chandrodaya Narayan of Chatrapathi Shahuji were the runners up.

Anusha K. P. of Calicut University won the first place in the women’s pole vault while Anoosha K. K. of M. G. University in Kottayam won the second place. Dija K. C. of Mangalore University won the third place.

Arpinder Singh of Punjab University and Rajashekar R. of Madras University won the first and second place in the men’s triple jump. The runner up was Salahuddin of Bharathiar.

Jinu Maria Manuel of MG University in Kottayam won the first place in the women’s high jump while Steny Michael of Kannur University won the second place. The runners up were Sindhu K. D. of Calicut University and Sunitha of Kurukshetra University.

Shine Soniya of Pune University won the first place in the women’s 4kg hammer throw while Anita of Rajasthan University won the second place. Sonam of VBSP University won the third place.

Kerala University, MDU – Rohtak University, and Mangalore University won the first, second, and third place in the men’s 4x400m relay, respectively.


Calicut University, MG University, and Kannur University won the first, second, and third place in the women’s 4x400m relay, respectively.
