Poojary Mangalore, April 8: Congress leader Janardhan Poojary, who was the former union finance minister, declared that he will quit politics if the BJP wins the by elections in Bangarapete, Chennapattana, and Jagalur.

Addressing reporters at a press meet held at Press Club Mangalore on April 8, Friday, he said that he is quite confident that he will not have to quit politics because the BJP has no chance of winning in these 3 constituencies. He also demanded that CM B. S. Yeddyurappa should resign if the BJP fails to win even in one of these three constituencies. He also urged voters to teach the BJP a lesson by not allowing it to come to power.

He also flayed the CM for continuing to be in power in spite of the allegations of corruption against him. Further flaying Yeddyurappa, he said that the CM has killed democracy and violated election norms. Pointing out that the CM has given away Rs. 103 crore for the development of 172 temples in Davanagere alone, he complained about the BJP’s cheap politics of threatening voters that their constituency will not develop if they do not support the BJP. He also flayed the state election commission for keeping quiet about the BJP.

In response to a reporter’s query, he said that Anna Hazare need not have undertaken a fast unto death because the UPA government intends to convene a meeting to sort out corruption issues. He also said that Patil Puttappa, who has now declared his support for Hazare, did not raise his voice against the corruption in Yeddyurappa’s government.

Commenting on Congress leaders who had quit the Congress in favor of JD (S), he said that M. G. Hegde, M. S. Siddique, Abdul Majeed Sooralpady, and Shashiraj Shetty were all power hungry people who resigned from the Congress because it had not offered them the post of MP or MLA. He also commented that they lack commitment. Responding to C. T. Ravi’s statement, Poojary said that Ravi is conspiring to pull down Eshwarappa.

Congress leaders Vijayakumar Shetty, Harikrishna Bantwal, and Suresh Ballal were present at the press conference.
