Mangaluru, Feb 15, 2026: Mangaluru was enveloped in deep spiritual fervour on Sunday as thousands of devotees thronged Shiva temples across the city and surrounding areas to mark the auspicious occasion of Maha Shivaratri with traditional rituals, prayers, and night-long observances.

The celebrations began in the early hours at the historic Kadri Sri Manjunatha Temple, where special pujas and abhishekas were performed amid the chanting of Vedic hymns. Devotees queued up from dawn to seek the blessings of Lord Manjunatha, offering prayers for peace and prosperity.
At the Kudroli Sri Gokarnanatha Temple, elaborate rituals marked the day-long celebrations. The temple witnessed the grand Maharudrabhisheka and Shata Siyala Abhisheka, a unique ritual involving the offering of a hundred tender coconuts. The temple premises resonated with devotional music and bhajans, drawing large crowds. The festivities at Kudroli are set to continue through the night with Jagarane (night-long vigil), followed by a majestic Rathotsava (chariot procession) and the traditional Keredipa.
Several other prominent temples across the region also observed Maha Shivaratri with special ceremonies.
