Mangalore Today News Network

Karkala, Dec 29, 2011 :The body of Sadashiva Gowda (50), a police informer, was found in the forests of Shantabolerigudda in Nadpal in Someshwar, 15kms from Kabbinele, by a team of police officers led by Vijayaprasad, the circle inspector of Karkala Rural Police Station, on Wednesday afternoon. On Dec 22, a Naxal called Vishnu had called the police and informed them that they had killed Sadashiva Gowda for working as an informer.

The body was tied to a banyan tree in a seated position at the waist, while the hands were tied with a nylon rope and the face was covered. The body, though partially decomposed, bears signs that he was brutally tortured before being shot. He was surrounded with pamphlets in praise of Maoists and bearing a warning to all police informers in the coastal area.

The police suspect that Vikram Gowda’s gang is responsible for this killing. The deceased Mr. Sadashiva Gowda had become a police informer against Naxal elements against the wishes of his friends, family members, and well wishers.

His uncle Govinda Gowda lives in Tengamaru, a village located 2kms from the place where Gowda’s body was discovered. When Govinda Gowda died 3 years back, the family moved to Kabbinele and Sadashiva Gowda was in the habit of paying weekly visits to the old house. He also used to collect forest products from Tengamaru and sell them in Kabbinele.

When reporters visited Govinda Gowda’s house on Wednesday, they noticed that the front door was locked while the back door was wide open. A vessel of boiled rice was found in the kitchen, where utensils were strewn all over the floor. Obviously, Sadashiva Gowda had cooked rice and had gone to the forest, but had not returned for his meals because he was killed by the Naxals who were waiting for him in the forests.

Alok Kumar, the commandant of the Anti Naxal Force (ANF); SP Ravikumar; DySP Santhosh Kumar; and Ganesh Hegde, the bureau police of the district crime intelligence, visited the crime scene. Around 75 police officers are guarding the spot at present.

The body of Gowda will be taken to a hospital for post mortem today.
