Police arrest 3 in connection with attempt to murder case

Mangalore, Nov 21, 2011: The police have arrested 3 men for involvement in the attempt to murder of Ravi, a rickshaw driver who operated his auto rickshaw from the Airport Authority Signal Station at Kandavar in Bajpe on Nov 13. 

Revealing details regarding this attempt to murder case, Mangalore Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh said that the police had formed 4 teams to crack the case. He was addressing reporters at a press conference held in his office today.

 

 

Mr. Singh said that the police had arrested Hanif alias Mada Hanif (26) of Bantwal on the basis of a complaint lodged by Ravindra Shettigar, who witnessed the crime. The police also seized a Maruti Omni and a weapon from Hanif. 

Mr. Singh said that the attackers wanted to take revenge on Ravi because he had provided information regarding rowdy sheeter Kabir to his murderers, making it easy for them to brutally kill Kabir at Charavu near Gurupur on Feb 25, 2011. 

The police also arrested Kabir’s brother Abdul Majeed and Abdul Rahiman of Addur, who is also wanted in the Candle Santhu murder case. Hanif, Majeed, and Rahiman have already been booked on six, two, and one count, respectively.
The trio had attacked Ravi with lethal weapons such as an iron rod, a sword, and a wooden shaft with the intention of killing him. After beating him up, they believed him to be dead and fled from the scene. However, Ravi was rushed to hospital in time and is now out of danger. 

Mr. Singh said that the police will arrest some more people in the near future, but refused to reveal details as it might hamper investigation. 

He also said that the police are also investigating the murder of 80-year-old Lalitha Poojary.

DCPs Dharmaiah and Muthuraya were also present.
