Mangalore, Dec 8, 2013: Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas M Veerappa Moily has said that there were plans to completely stop the import of oil by 2030.
Speaking to reporters at Circuit House on December 8, Sunday, Moily said the nation’s oil import is expected to be reduced by 50 per cent by 2020. Pointing out that oil import is done on a larger scale at present, he said the country was at present producing 219 MMT of oil and that there is a target of taking this to 260 MMT by 2015.
Stating that China stands first in oil production in the world, he also said Belgium and ISRPL companies are even in the lead. Even India has to put in efforts in this direction, Moily said adding his ministry has already initiated an oil conservation drive and has constituted a committee headed by Vijay Kelkar for the purpose.
Commenting on BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, Moily said he(Modi) had the power to polarise. He is a power just like Hitler in Germany, Moily made an observation. Excluding Modi no other leader in his party are influential, he further added.
