Mangaluru University retired professor Dr Waheeda Sultana passes away

Mangaluru, Aug 7, 2026: Dr Waheeda Sultana (70), retired professor of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism at Mangaluru University, passed away due to a heart attack at a private hospital in Mysuru on Thursday afternoon.

A resident of Kalyanagiri in Mysuru, Dr Sultana had served as a professor in the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism at Mangaluru University for nearly three decades and retired as the head of the department.

She is survived by her husband, two brothers and three sisters. Her last rites will be held in Mysuru on Friday afternoon, family sources said.

During her tenure at Mangaluru University, Dr Sultana also served as the warden of the women’s hostel and coordinated IAS and KAS coaching programmes for students from minority and other OBC communities.

She wrote extensively on subjects including media, health, technology and women’s issues and presented research papers at national and international journals and conferences.

She participated in international conferences held in Bangladesh, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Hong Kong, where she presented research papers. Her areas of interest included corporate communications, women and media, health communication and women.

Dr Sultana also served as the Deputy Director of the National Committee of the Asian Congress for Media and Communication.

The Mangaluru University Department of Mass Communication and Journalism Alumni Association (MAM) expressed deep condolences over her demise.
