Bantwal: Tipper truck rams into scooter, pillion rider killed; rider seriously injured

Bantwal, Aug. 7, 2026: A pillion rider was killed and the scooter rider seriously injured after a tipper truck allegedly rammed into their two-wheeler from behind near N.G. Circle in Bantwal taluk on Thursday evening.
The deceased has been identified as Yashwanth Kulal, while the injured scooter rider has been identified as Dayananda.
According to police, the accident occurred around 6.30 pm when a tipper truck travelling from Kalladka towards Lorettto collided with a scooter travelling from Mangaluru towards Dharmasthala with a pillion rider.
Both Dayananda and Yashwanth Kulal sustained serious injuries and were shifted to Wenlock District Government Hospital in Mangaluru for treatment. Doctors later confirmed Yashwanth’s death, while Dayananda is undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit.
Bantwal Traffic Police have registered a case under Sections 281, 125(a) and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in Crime No. 99/2026.
Police have taken the tipper truck driver, Salman Farooq (33), a resident of Pallamajalu, Bantwal, into custody.
