Mangalore, Jun 5: The State Biodiversity Board and the Karnataka Forest Department have announced the winners of the annual State Environment Awards, which are given away to institutions and individuals in recognition and appreciation of their services in the areas of environmental protection and conservation.
The award, which comprises a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh, will be conferred on three institutions and three individuals at the Jnanajyothi Auditorium at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday. The awards for individuals will be conferred on Nandidurga Balugowda of Bangalore, Gangadharendra Saraswati Swami of Swarnavalli Mutt in Uttara Kannada, and N. J. Devaraj Reddy of Chitradurga. The awards for institutions will be conferred on Pilikula Nisargadhama Society in Mangalore, Paryavarani in Belgaum, and the Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology.
The Karnataka Biodiversity Board will confer awards on A. P. Chandrashekar of Puttur, Dr. Raghavendrananth Aital of Udupi, Kadamba Marketing Souharda Cooperative Society of Sirsi, S. V. Kalmat of Humnabad in Bidar, Sarojamma of Bhadravathi, and Syed Ghanikhan of Malavalli in Mandya.
The awards ceremony will be preceded by an environment rally, which will be taken from Mahatma Gandhi Statue to the auditorium through Kasturba Road, Hudson Circle, Nrupatunga Road, and K. R. Circle.
Each participant will receive a T-shirt and a cap sponsored by the Karnataka Environment Laboratories Association.
