Moodubelle, September 23: On the occasion of the centenary celebrations of the foundation of St. Lawrence Parish, Moodubelle, a pilgrim tour to the Holy Land spread over the countries of Israel, Jordan and Egypt is being organized for the benefit of the parishioners under the spiritual guidance of Fr. Joswey Fernandes, parish priest of Moodubelle along with Fr. Nelson D’Almeida, former Assistant Priest in Moodubelle and presently professor in St. Joseph’s Seminary, Jeppu-Mangalore and Fr. Gilbert Pinto from the Chikmagalur Diocese.

The pilgrimage will start from Monday, 8th November and end on Thursday 18th November 2010. The pilgrims will spend two days in Egypt where they will visit old churches in Cairo, Museum, Pyramids and Sphinx and even have a cruise on the Nile River. While crossing the Suez Canal, the pilgrims will have a look at the Biblical and historical Sinai Mountain.
 

From Egypt the pilgrims will proceed to Israel where during five days of their stay will visit maximum number of holy places that are included in the Holy Land. They will be shown St. Catherine Monastery, the site of the Burning Bush, Jerusalem, Mount Olives, Garden of Gethsemani, traditional house of high priest Caiphas, Church of Nativity, Old City of Jerusalem, Fourteen Stations of the Cross leading to Golgotha, the Last supper Room, the Tomb of King David, Birthplace of St. John the Baptist, Church of Visitation, Jericho, Mount of Temptation, Dead Sea, Bethania, Tomb of Lazarus, Nazareth, Basilica of Annunciation, Cana, Sea of Galilee, Bethlehem, St. Peter’s House, Mount Tabor and many other places associated with the Old and New Testament. From Israel, the pilgrims will spend a day in Jordan where they will be visiting Mount Nebo, Memorial of Moses, Church of St. George. After the completion of the tour, the pilgrims will return from Amman Airport to Mangalore via Kuwait and Mumbai.


The total cost of the Pilgrim Tour of the Holy Land is Rs. 72,500/- which includes economy class airfare, hotel accommodation, breakfast, lunch and dinner, transport, entrance fees for site-seeing, guide fees and border taxes. The pilgrim tour is conducted by Riya Holidays.
 

According to Fr. Joswey Fernandes, this is a good opportunity for the parishioners of Moodubelle to visit the Holy Land in a homogenous group at reasonable cost. Pilgrimage to the Holy Land is a dream that everyone would like to fulfill. Fr. Joswey says that in the centenary year of the foundation of the Moodubellle Parish people should avail this opportunity to join the pilgrimage and enrich themselves spiritually by visiting those places associated with the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.
