New Delhi, Mar 22, 2022: Prices of petrol and diesel were hiked by 80 paise per litre on Tuesday, twelve days after the assembly election results in five states.

Petrol

Meanwhile, the cost of domestic cooking gas has been increased by Rs 50 per cylinder.

PETROL, DIESEL RATES

Petrol in Delhi will now cost Rs 96.21 per litre as against Rs 95.41 previously while diesel rates have gone up from Rs 86.67 per litre to Rs 87.47.

In Kolkata, petrol costs Rs 105.51 per litre while diesel rates increased to Rs 90.62 per litre.

The prices of petrol and diesel in Tamil Nadu’s Chennai have increased to Rs 102.16 per litre and Rs 92.19 per litre, respectively.

In Mumbai, petrol is now priced at Rs 110.82 per litre while diesel is at Rs 95 per litre.

Fuel prices had remained unchanged since November 2021 despite global crude oil prices breaching the three-figure mark and touching multi-year highs. However, many had been anticipating a rise in prices after hostilities between Russia and Ukraine increased global prices.

In India, petrol and diesel prices depend on various factors such as demand for fuel, valuation of INR against USD, consumption ratio of refineries and more.

The prices of petrol and diesel vary from state to state, depending on the incidence of local taxes like value-added tax (VAT) and freight charges.

LPG RATE

The price of domestic cooking gas (LPG) was hiked by Rs 50 per cylinder on Tuesday, sources said. A 14.2-kg non-subsidised LPG cylinder will now cost Rs 949.50 in Delhi.

Meanwhile, a 5-kg LPG cylinder will now cost Rs 349 while a 10-kg composite bottle will be priced at Rs 669, as per sources.

The 19-kg commercial cylinder will now cost Rs 2,003.50.

This is the first increase in LPG rates since early October. Until now, prices had been on a freeze even as the cost of raw materials spiralled.

The hike in prices is in line with a spike in international energy prices, sources said.
