Mangaluru, May 30, 2025: The Vice-Chancellor of Mangalore University, P.L. Dharma, said on Thursday that even semester (second, fourth and sixth) undergraduate examinations of the university for the academic year 2024-25 will be conducted from June 9 to July 15.

About 62,000 students will appear for the examinations. Once the examinations are completed, the results of sixth-semester students will be announced on priority, he told the Academic Council meeting.

Mr. Dharma said that compared to other State universities in Karnataka, Mangalore University is one month ahead in completing the academic year 2024-25. When many other universities have yet to commence their sixth-semester classes, Mangalore University is on the verge of holding its sixth-semester examinations next month, he said.

Academic year 2025-26

Later, speaking to the media, the Vice-Chancellor said that the university has decided to start the first-semester undergraduate classes for 2025-26 from July 28.

The university is exploring the option of introducing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing programme on its campus at Mangalagangotri, starting from the academic year 2025-26. It will be an employment-driven course, he said.

BCA at University College

Mr. Dharma stated that the university will introduce the Bachelor of Computer Application programme at its University College, Hampankatta in Mangaluru, commencing from the 2025-26 academic year, with an intake of approximately 30 students. The University College has already received about 800 applications for its various undergraduate courses for the 2025-26 academic year.

He said that the intake of students at the BBA (Tourism) programme at the University College will be increased, and the course will be made more vibrant. He said students will be made to undergo an internship for the entire semester, either in the fourth or sixth semester.

The Vice-Chancellor said that the Regional Joint Director, Department of Collegiate Education, has written to the government recommending that the government take over the three constituent colleges of Mangalore University at Nelyadi, Konaje and Bannadkka (in Moodbidri) as the university is not able to maintain them due to various reasons. The government has not recognised those colleges, and hence, those colleges do not have permanent teachers. The university will have to appoint only guest teachers to teach in those colleges. The university is also facing a dearth of funds to manage them. If the government took over those colleges, they would become government colleges. The government has yet to make a decision on this matter.
