Mangaluru: Boat capsizes in Phalguni River; one dead, search on for missing youth

Mangaluru, Apr 1, 2026: A boat capsized in the Phalguni River, leaving two youths drowned. The body of one has been recovered, while search operations continue for the other.

The tragic incident occurred early Wednesday (April 1) morning in the Phalguni River under the Kavoor police station limits, when a boat overturned while the youths had gone fishing. The victims have been identified as Ganesh (28) and Royal (24), both residents of Kunjathbail.

Boat tragedy-one dead, one missing

According to reports, Ganesh, Royal, and Nithesh had gone fishing in the river at around 1:30 am. During this time, their moving boat suddenly capsized. As Ganesh and Royal did not know how to swim, they drowned, while Nithesh managed to swim to safety.

Upon receiving the information, fire and rescue personnel along with local divers rushed to the spot and launched an intensive search operation. Ganesh’s body has been recovered, while efforts are ongoing to trace Royal.

A case has been registered at the Kavoor police station.
