Mangaluru, Apr 1, 2026: Police have arrested an interstate accused from Tamil Nadu in connection with the theft at Sri Ramanjaneya Temple in Kenjaru village under Bajpe police station limits. The accused has been identified as Shabik Ahmed Sheikh Abdul Khader (25), a native of Dindigul district.
According to police, on March 3, 2026, the accused broke open the temple door, entered the premises, and smashed three donation hundis, stealing around ₹25,000 in cash. A case had been registered at Bajpe police station, following which a special team was formed to trace the accused. Based on credible information, he was arrested on March 31. During interrogation, the accused confessed to the crime, and the stolen hundi was recovered.
Further investigation revealed that the accused was also involved in a theft case registered at Brahmavar police station in Udupi district and a motorcycle theft reported in the Thokur–Jokatte area under Panambur police limits in the last week of February.
Police said the accused used to travel from Tamil Nadu by train, commit thefts, and flee back to his native state. The operation was carried out by a team led by Bajpe Police Inspector Balakrishna, along with staff members Nuthan, Rajesh, and Prakash. The accused was produced before the court, which remanded him to judicial custody.
