Mangaluru, Sept. 5, 2026: Teachers play a vital role in shaping individuals and building the nation, alongside parents, said State Health and Family Welfare Minister and Dakshina Kannada District In-charge Minister U.T. Khader.
He was speaking after inaugurating the Teachers’ Day celebration organised by the Mangaluru North Education Zone at Kudmul Ranga Rao Town Hall here on Saturday. The programme was organised by the Dakshina Kannada district administration and Zilla Panchayat in association with various departments.

“Teachers have the power to shape the architects of the nation. They can transform students into a strong force through education. By dedicating their knowledge, intelligence and talent to students, teachers can contribute to creating an extraordinary asset for the country,” Khader said.
He observed that merely being educated does not necessarily prevent people from engaging in criminal activities. “Therefore, education alone is not enough. Value-based education is the need of the hour,” he said.
Khader stressed the need for teachers to continuously upgrade their skills in the era of rapidly advancing technology. Teachers must keep themselves updated with new technologies and changing student needs, he said, warning that those who fail to adapt could find it increasingly difficult to remain relevant in the education sector.
“With the growing importance of artificial intelligence, teachers must ensure that they stay connected with students and do not become disconnected from society,” he said.
As part of the programme, 21 teachers from primary, higher primary and high schools across Dakshina Kannada district were presented with Best Teacher Awards.
Retired teachers and non-teaching staff of the Mangaluru North Education Zone were also felicitated.
MLC Ivan D’Souza, Muda Chairman Santosh Shetty, Karnataka Cashew Development Corporation Chairman Mamatha D.S. Gatti, Karnataka Eco-Tourism Development Board Chairman Shalet Pinto, Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Darshan H.V., Zilla Panchayat CEO Vinayak Karbhari, Mangaluru City Corporation Commissioner Rahul Ratnam Pandey, Mangaluru Assistant Commissioner Meenakshi Arya, DDPI G.S. Shashidhar and Mangaluru North Zone BEO James Coutinho, along with office-bearers of teachers’ associations, were present.
