Mangalore, Feb 7, 2011: Speaking after inaugurating the renovated office of the Information Department on Feb 7, Monday, District-in-charge Minister Krishna J. Palemar said that the state government had released Rs. 9 lakh for the development of this office, adding that the government has also provided a brand new vehicle for the Information Department.
Stressing the important of developing government offices to enhance productivity, he urged the DHO to provide an office in the PWD building. He also lauded the MCC’s efforts to keep Mangalore green and clean.
Prabhakar Sharma, the assistant commissioner; B. S. Balakrishna, the PWD superintendent; ZP CEO Shivashankar; and DHO O. R. Rangappa were present on the occasion. Pushparaj, the reporter of the Vartha Bharathi, was the MC of the programme. K. Rohini, the information officer, proposed the vote of thanks.
Census 2011
Later, the minister told reporters at a press meet held on Census 2011 that this is the 15th census and that it will be held from Feb 9 – 28.
He said that the enumerators will conduct the census of people living at the railway station, footpaths, bus stands, and by the roadside from 9:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. in order to get the correct population count.
He said that 4,807 – 5000 enumerators from various colleges and departments, along with the police department, will perform census duties.
The minister urged the public to support the enumerators when they visit their houses to collect the required information. If the enumerators find the doors locked, they will visit the house again from March 1 – 5.
Matsya Mela
The minister also said that the Mega Matsya Mela will be organized in Bangalore on Feb 18 – 21, in which 3 lakh people will participate. People from Mangalore will set up around 140 stalls and exhibit a wide range of fish from DK, he informed.
