Palemar claims ignorance about Gokul’s association with Lokayukta

krishna j palemar Mangalore, June 29: Krishna J. Palemar, the minister for ports and environment, has issued clarifications regarding his role in the resignation of Lokayukta N. Santhosh Hegde. Claiming that the meeting he had convened in Karwar was official in nature, and not unofficial, as some sources state, the minister said that he was not even aware that Gokul was working for the Lokayukta when he wrote to the chief minister recommending his suspension.

In his letter to the CM dated June 10, Palemar had recommended the suspension of R. Gokul, the Karwar deputy conservator of forests, who had raided the Belekeri port in Uttara Kannada and had confiscated iron ore worth Rs 200 crore for his failure to attend a meeting convened by him.

During the inauguration of the Mangalore Police Commissionerate office on Saturday, Palemar said that the charges made against him by investigating officials are baseless. He explained that he had convened 2 meetings when he visited Karwar, one of which was a meeting of port users and the other was with the UK deputy commissioner. He said that he had recommended the official’s suspension because he had not attended either of these meetings.

Regarding the discontentment within the Sangh Parivar regarding the Lokayukta’s resignation, Home Minister V. S. Acharya said that he had a lot of respect for the RSS of which he was a member. Simultaneously, he said that the BJP and the RSS are two autonomous organizations and that the RSS’s opinion regarding the Lokayukta’s opinion is its own.
