Mangalore, August 20: A large number of people paid their last respects to Paladka Parish Priest Fr Dolphy Monteiro, who was tragically killed in a road accident two days back (18th August). The funeral ceremony took place at Paladka Church, Moodbidri on Friday, August 20 at 10 am.

The funeral mass commenced at sharp 10 am at Paladka Church. Mangalore Diocesan Bishop Rev. Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza led the high mass assisted by the concelebrants.  More that 200 parish priests were present at the church. A total of 50 priests graced the altar.


As the pall bearers carrying the mortal remains of Fr. Dolphy Monteiro entered the Paladka Church seminary grounds here, the church bells were sounded to convey the sad message in the neighborhood.


Over 3000 people thronged the church and shared their views about Fr Dolphy, a young and dynamic priest who was gaining popularity in the region when the tragedy struck him.


Fr Dolphy M. Monteiro (45 years), a priest of the Diocese of Mangalore died in a bike accident on the 18th of August at around 10 a.m. in Paladka near Moodbidri.


Fr Monteiro is the son of Late Joseph M. Montiero and Ephrosine Alice Rodrigues of Bantwal Parish.  Two of his sisters are members of two different women religious Congregations.


He was born on 17.6.1965 and was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Mangalore on 09-05-1992 after his priestly formation in St Peter’s Seminary, Bangalore. After being Assistant Pastor at Kinnigoly, Milagres-Mangalore and Belman parishes he was the parish priest of Narampady Parish in Kasaragod District in Kerala State. From 2002 to 2008 he was the Parish Priest of St Joseph’s Church, Jeppu-Mangalore and also the Financial Administrator of St Joseph’s Inter-diocesan Seminary, Mangalore. After a break of pastoral experience in United States of America for two years, he was given the present office in the last week of May this year.
