Sullia, Nov 21, 2011 : Delivering the inaugural address at the inauguration ceremony of the 4-day padayatre organized by the DK District Congress and Sullia Block Congress at Kallugundi in Sampaje on Nov 21 Monday, which is being held to protest against the pathetic condition of the Sampje to Mani stretch, Krishna Bairegowda, the Congress leader and MLA, remarked that people’s representatives alone are responsible for the fact that work on this 80-km stretch has been progressing at a snail’s pace for the past six months although work has been done on hundreds of kilometers at various locations across the state.

Further speaking on the issue, he said that industrialists, agriculturists, and the general public are being put through a lot of inconvenience because of the pathetic condition of the roads, owing to which the Congress is holding a peaceful padayatre to enhance public awareness.

Speaking on the occasion, Vinaykumar Sorake, the secretary of the AICC, said that the purpose of the padayatre is to highlight issues in DK and to bring them to the attention of DVS. Although the CM desires to do something for his home district, he cannot do much because of the internal problems within the BJP, he said. Labeling DVS as a “remote control CM,” he said that Yeddyurappa, the former chief minister, has instructed him not to resign as the MP.

Mundodi Bellyappa Gowda, the senior Congress leader, inaugurated the padayatre. MLA B. Ramanath Rai, the president of the DK District Congress president, flagged off the padayatre. A number of Congress leaders are participating in this event.

The padayatre caused a road block at Sampaje for over one hour. The police tried their best to maintain law and order, but none of the participants bothered to listen to police officers who were urging them to use only one side of the road and allow vehicles to pass on the other side. On the other hand, there were some heated arguments between police officers and Congress workers.
