Mangalore, Aug 8, 2013 : Residents of Pachanady and Santhosh Nagar in Mangalore continue to reel under problems due to the unbearable stench from the waste dumping yard at Pachanady.
It is believed that the storage of wet wastes for long during heavy rains has led to the problem. Local residents also express their ire over the MCC authorities for not initiating measures to clear the waste. The failure of the MCC in waste management has also come under severe criticism and is forcing locals to take the path of agitation.
The local corporator Kavitha Sanil too has joined the electorate of her ward in fighting for the cause. She alleged that the company which has been awarded contract for waste management has failed in its duty and has not cleared the waste water stored in the compost plant. She said the filthy water from the dumping yard was also contaminating water sources nearby.
Residents of the area demand that the dumping yard should have a high compound wall, a waste water storage tank and greenery around so that the foul smell from the yard could reduce to some extent.
