Mangalore, Nov 25, 2012: A police constable of Pandeshwar Police Station stands accused of verbally abusing Sadashiv, a member of the Dalit community.
Speaking at the monthly SC/ST grievance meet held at the Mangalore Commissionerate in Mangalore today, Sadashiv, a resident of Urwa Store, complained that PC Shaaju of the Pandeshwar Police Station had insulted him on two occasions, and on both occasions he had been under the influence of drink and off duty. Complaining that no action has been taken against the PC so far, he urged the Mangalore Police commissioner to investigate the issue.
Mangalore Police Commissioner Manish Kharbikar, who was chairing the meeting, said that the issue will be investigated at the earliest possible.
Ashok Konchadi of Derebail accused Ravichandra of encroaching upon property assigned by the government to the Dalits. He accused non-Dalit Ravichandra and Dalit leader Krishnappa Konchady of submitting an application letter bearing forged signatures and false information to the tahsildar. Accusing the duo of misusing a letterhead belonging to the CPI(M), he said that the survey number and plot numbers mentioned in the application does not tally with the original. The duo had also forged the signature of a non-Dalit called Janardhan Poojary.
Ashok also spoke of the case of Dalit Hemanth who had applied for funds for constructing a house under the SC/ST 22.75 scheme. He complained that before Hemanth received a cheque from the MCC, Krishnappa Konchady submitted a petition claiming that the plot on which Hemanth wanted to construct a house is disputed property, owing to which the cheque was held up. He urged the commissioner to investigate the issue as Krishnappa Konchady was oppressing Dalits in spite of being a Dalit leader.
