Mangalore, Nov 11, 2012: Over 600 beautiful goodu deepas made by those who took part in the 13th annual Goodu Deepa Competition organized by local TV channel Namma Kudla in Kudroli Gokarnatheshwara Temple were exhibited on Nov 10, Saturday.

Several people took part in the competition, which was held not only to keep alive the tradition of Deepavali, but also to give people a chance to exhibit their talents. The competition was held in the traditional, unique, and modern categories.

The first and second prize winners received gold medals. Besides, the organizers gave away 10 consolation prizes and 5 special prizes in each category. The participants made good deepas out of colored lights, colored paper, and bamboo.

Among those present were H. S. Sairam, president and administrative officer of Shri Gokarnanatheshwara Temple; Raghavendra Kuloor, its vice president; Dr. B. G. Suvarna, trustee; and B. P. Karkera, founder of Namma Kudla.

M. N. Rajendra Kumar, chairman of SCDCC Bank, received the Namma Tuluver Award on this occasion, while Bannanje Babu Amin, senior folk litterateur, and Vibha Lakshmi Rai K. received the Namma Kudla 2011 Award and the Bala Prathibe Award, respectively.
