Mangaluru, Aug 31, 2025: Over 3,700 runners turned the streets of Panambur into a festive track on Sunday morning during the NMPA Golden Jubilee 10K Run, organised to mark 50 years of the New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA).
The event featured 10K, 5K, and 3K categories, attracting elite athletes, students, families, port employees, pensioners, and civic groups. Cheer zones, cultural performances, medical aid, and refreshment counters lined the route, creating a vibrant atmosphere.
The run was flagged off by NMPA Chairman Dr. A.V. Ramana along with city officials and dignitaries. In his address, Dr. Ramana highlighted the port’s achievements, including a record 46 million metric tons handled and an expected profit of ₹550 crore this year. Calling NMPA the “Maritime Gateway to Karnataka,” he said the port contributes nearly ₹10,000 crore annually to the state’s economy. He also urged youth to prioritise health and fitness, quoting the maxim “Aarogyam paramam bhaagyam” (Health is the greatest wealth).
Institutions like St Aloysius University, Srinivasa University, corporates, port users, pensioners, and schoolchildren joined the run. All participants received commemorative medals and T-shirts, while winners in various categories were awarded.
Event organiser Asit Kulkarni thanked NMPA, volunteers, and citizens for their support, calling the event “a benchmark for what Mangaluru can achieve together.”
