Malpe, January 31, 2026: A leopard is suspected to have climbed onto a parked bus at Garadimajalu in Thenkandiyoor, Malpe, on Wednesday night, triggering concern among local residents.

The bus was parked at its regular location after the conductor returned home. On Thursday morning, the driver’s seat and several cushions inside the bus were found badly torn.

Initially believed to be the handiwork of miscreants, the incident took a serious turn after large paw marks were discovered at the spot, leading authorities to suspect that a leopard may have caused the damage.

In response, Forest Department officials have placed two cages in the Hampankatte area to capture the animal. However, no concrete clues have been found so far, heightening anxiety among residents.
