Mangaluru, June 25, 2023: The coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada experienced substantial rainfall throughout Saturday. Anticipating further showers, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for these three districts until Sunday.
On Friday, three locations in Uttara Kannada district recorded the highest rainfall in the state. Shirvad in Karwar Taluk received 141mm of rainfall, followed by Mavinakurve in Bhatkal Taluk with 137mm and Kodakani in Kumta Taluk with 127mm. The IMD had forecasted scattered and widespread light rainfall throughout the day, with isolated heavy rains occurring in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts during the evening.
The heavy rainfall on Friday resulted in flooding in certain vulnerable and low-lying areas such as Jappinamogaru, Hosabettu, and Kottara, where the water reached knee-deep levels.
In light of the weather conditions, the IMD has issued a warning to fishermen, advising them not to venture into the sea from Saturday until June 28. The warning states that squally weather, with wind speeds of 40-45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph, is likely along and off the coasts of Karnataka.
