No shortage of power in state, says Energy Minister Shobha Karandlaje

Mangalore,June 18, 2011 : Energy Minister Shobha Karandlaje ceremoniously laid the foundation stone for the KEB Engineers’ Association’s zonal office building, which is to be set up at Kavoor, by formally unveiling a plaque at a special programme held at Lions Club Mallikatte.

Claiming that there was no shortage of power in the state and that it was possible to provide uninterrupted power supply to the entire state, Ms. Karandlaje said that the problem is because of shortage of power stations and problems in service lines. She said that the government had decided to construct 176 new power stations all over Karnataka this year and that funds will be shortly allocated for the purpose.

The minister also said that 411 linemen will be recruited by Mescom and 2,500 linemen in all will be recruited all over the state on merit basis alone. Stating that Mescom provides 3-phase current for over six hours daily, the minister urged Mescom officers to give better customer care service. She also assured the gathering that demands such as regularization of the 2007 batch of recruited employees and revision of pay scale among others will be addressed soon. She also assured that all the escoms will be rejuvenated within 2 more years.

The zonal office building, which is to be constructed at Kavoor, requires funds of Rs. 2 crore. It will have an auditorium, four rooms, and food and accommodation facilities for guests. The project is to be completed in 2 years.

Yogish Bhat, the deputy speaker; B. Nagaraj Shetty, the chairman of the Coastal Development Authority; K. T. Shailaja Bhat, the president of the Zilla Panchayat, and L. Ravi were also present.
