Mangaluru, April 5, 2026: The New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA) marked the commencement of Merchant Navy Week with a flag pinning ceremony, honouring the contributions of seafarers and the maritime fraternity to the nation’s trade and economy.
The first Merchant Navy flag was ceremonially pinned on Dakshina Kannada MP Capt Brijesh Chowta by Capt Manoj Joshi, Deputy Conservator, NMPA, along with Rehman, Deputy Director (Technical), Directorate General of Shipping.

The ceremony highlighted the importance of the maritime sector and recognised the critical role of seafarers in sustaining global trade and logistics.
Merchant Navy Week is observed to celebrate the dedication and professionalism of seafarers who ensure uninterrupted cargo movement and contribute significantly to the country’s maritime growth.
