NHAI officially declares Kuloor Flyover open to traffic

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore,  Feb 24, 2012: The Kuloor Flyover, which is part of the Surathkal – Bantwal highway widening project, became completely functional on Feb 23 Thursday. Although the flyover, the construction of which took six years, became functional a few months back and is currently in use, the official announcement was made only on Thursday.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and Ircon, the firm that was contracted to construct the flyover, organized a puja at the flyover on Thursday evening, removed the barricades placed at the flyover entry near Kuloor Church, and distributed sweets.

The flyovers at Kuntikana and Kottara are open to public use, but the Suratkal flyover has been in its final stages of construction for the past several years and officials had promised that it will be declared open by the end of this month.

A proposal to move the Express Bus Stop in Suratkal to Govinda Dasa College once the Suratkal flyover has been declared open might reduce the traffic congestion caused at the Kuloor Bus Stop owing to incoming express buses.
